Bensalem, PA – Pennsylvania-breds were in the spotlight at Parx Racing as Veeson and Mary Q both began their 2025 seasons with authoritative victories.
Veeson began his five-year-old season with a minor upset victory over Spikezone, the 2024 Claiming Horse of the Year, in Tuesday’s featured allowance race at Parx.
A homebred son of Il Villano for Chuck Russo, Veeson broke well and settled to stalk the pace under jockey Silvestre Gonzalez, rating off of opening fractions of :22.15 and :45.46 set by Traders Luck and Spikezone. He angled out in the stretch and wore down Spikezone to win by 2 ¾ lengths.
Trained by Esteban Padilla, Veeson earned the seventh victory of his career and improved his career earnings to $442,832.
Mary Q, bred by trainer Michael Moore, defeated a field of nine state-bred rivals on Wednesday with a 3 ¾ length score under Paco Lopez.
Owned by Hardesty Stables, the five-year-old daughter of Social Inclusion broke alertly and quickly went to contest the early lead. She took command at the top of the stretch and drew o9ff comfortably to earn her fourth victory, increasing her earnings to $205,040.
